UHCL to host fall 2023 commencement ceremony at NRG Arena

Fall 2023 Commencement will be held Dec. 9 at NRG.

University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) will host its fall 2023 commencement ceremonies on Saturday,  December 9, at NRG Arena in Houston. The ceremonies will confer over 1,000 degrees to graduates from the Colleges of Science and Engineering and Human Sciences and Humanities during a 10 a.m. ceremony, and the Colleges of Education and Business during a 3 p.m. ceremony.

Millicent Hendrix, who is receiving her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from the College of Human Sciences and Humanities, will deliver the commencement address for the morning ceremony. During her academic journey at UHCL, Hendrix served in various capacities, such as student therapist at the Psychological Services Clinic, mentor for the Hawk Leadership Institute, and teaching assistant. Upon graduation, Hendrix plans to continue her research at UTHealth in the Trauma and Resilience Center.

Commencement speaker for the afternoon ceremony, Nayeli Romero, is receiving her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the College of Education. Romero is the proud mother of two sons and a first-generation college student. While at UHCL, she served as junior vice president of the Bilingual Education Student Organization and completed an internship at Heritage Elementary School in La Porte, where she will also begin her career as a pre-k bilingual teacher in 2024.

Tickets are not required to attend the ceremony, and there is no limit to the number of guests for each graduate.

This fall's candidates will join over 78,000 others who have graduated from the university. UHCL began as an upper-division university in 1974, admitting juniors, seniors, and graduate students. The university expanded to admit freshmen in 2014.
