UHCL Ranks Among Texas’ Top Public, Best Value Universities in 2027 Niche Rankings
The University of Houston-Clear Lake is among the top public universities and best value colleges in Texas, with several rankings climbing significantly in the 2027 Niche College Rankings.
UHCL ranked No. 7 among Top Public Universities in Texas and No. 7 among Best Value Colleges in Texas, improving from No. 11 in both categories last year. The university also earned the No. 1 spot among Best Value Colleges in the Houston area.
The university also climbed to No. 11 on the Best Colleges in Texas list, up from No. 17 last year, placing UHCL among the state's leading institutions across public and private universities.
“These rankings reinforce what we want every student and family to know about UHCL. A high-quality university education can be within reach,” UHCL President Richard Walker said. “Our focus is on providing students with the academic experiences, support and opportunities they need to succeed, while ensuring the investment they make in their education creates lasting value.”
UHCL also made significant gains nationally. The university moved into the top 100 public universities in America at No. 89, up from No. 127 last year, and climbed 93 spots to No. 192 among Best Colleges in America.
UHCL's national Best Value ranking showed similar momentum, rising 52 places from No. 121 to No. 69. Niche gave the university an A- for value, with the 2027 ranking representing UHCL's strongest position in the five years included in the report.
The recognition comes as UHCL continues to expand opportunities for students through new academic programs, industry and community partnerships, and efforts to make a four-year degree more accessible and affordable.
Niche's Best Colleges rankings combine academic, admissions, financial and student-life data from sources including the U.S. Department of Education with reviews from students and alumni. Academic quality carries the greatest weight in the Best Colleges methodology, followed by value, which considers factors such as student debt, alumni earnings and students' perceptions of the value of their education.
