UHCL Pearland hosts “Fall in Love with Reading” author event on Valentine’s Day

The University of Houston–Clear Lake at Pearland location and the Alfred R. Neumann Library will host “Fall in Love with Reading,” a community book event celebrating literacy and local authors, on Valentine’s Day, Saturday, Feb. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will take place at the UHCL at Pearland Health Science Building, located at 1200 Pearland Parkway. Admission is free.

The event connects readers with writers across a wide range of genres, including nonfiction, memoir, poetry, fantasy, historical fiction, and children’s educational literature. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet authors, explore new titles, buy books, and engage with members of the local literary community.

Featured authors include Dawn Owens, a publisher presenting more than 15 nonfiction titles; Herb Baker, author of “From Apollo to Artemis: Stories From My 50 Years With NASA,” a memoir documenting five decades of work with NASA; and Taylor Enochs, whose poetry collection “I Shouldn’t Say This, But…” explores themes of honesty and vulnerability, along with several additional local authors representing a range of genres and audiences. Other authors scheduled to appear and their works are:

·         William Peak Gaupp, “The Fall of 69” (fiction)

·         Alia Hewitt, “Betrayer’s Game” (historical fiction)

·         Samara Kalz, “Visions of Eterna” (young adult fantasy)

·         Lindsey Powell, “The Violet Mage” (adult fiction, romantic fantasy)

·         Beth Richards, “A Waltz Through Time” (historical fiction)

·         Erika Andrade Smith, “Papas y Papas” and “Paletas 1-2-3” (children’s concept board books)

·         Rick Tabor, “Children of the Scroll” (fantasy thriller)

·         Amy Vogel, “Teleosis,” “The Assist,” and “Feminine Rising” (fiction)

·         Micole Williams, “Tangled Web of True Love Tales” and “Toxic Ties” (fiction and nonfiction)

·         Thomas Woltz, “Finding My Road” (nonfiction, memoir)

“This event is about creating space for our community to come together around books, conversation, and shared experiences,” said Shannon Samuelson, director of professional and continuing education at UHCL at Pearland. “Fall in Love With Reading” is an invitation to connect through stories.”

The event is open to students, faculty, staff, and members of the public as part of UHCL’s ongoing efforts to promote literacy, creativity, and community connection.
