UHCL earns 2025-2026 Military Friendly ® School.

The University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) Division of Student Affairs (DSA) proudly announces that UHCL has earned the 2025-2026 Military Friendly School ® (Silver Designation). This recognition is awarded to institutions evaluated using public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. More than 1,800 schools participated in the 2025-2026 survey, with 830 earning special awards for exceeding the standard.

The methodology, criteria, and weightings for the Military Friendly® School designation were set by Viqtory with guidance from the Military Friendly® Advisory Council. The council includes independent leaders in higher education and military recruitment. Final ratings were determined by assessing each institution’s survey responses and performance in student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer), and loan default rates for all students, with a special emphasis on student veterans.

UHCL’s Capt. Wendell M. Wilson Office of Military and Veteran Services, part of DSA, provides a personalized and comprehensive support system for students with military affiliations. The office aims to foster a welcoming environment that caters to the unique needs of veterans, active-duty service members, reservists, and their families.

“At UHCL, we value the unique contributions of our military-affiliated students who positively impact our campus. We honor them by offering extensive resources and cultivating a supportive community,” said Dr. Tina Powellson, vice president of Student Affairs at UHCL. “Receiving the Silver Military Friendly designation for a consecutive year echoes our unwavering commitment to our veterans as they transition into academia.”

Luis Polanco De Leon, director of the Office of Military & Veteran Services, affirmed that this award solidifies UHCL’s dedication to supporting military-affiliated students.

“Earning the Military Friendly® designation once again reaffirms our dedication to serving those who have served. At UHCL, we strive to create an environment where veteran and military-affiliated students feel supported in every aspect of their academic journey,” said Polanco De Leon. “Through tailored resources, advocacy, and community-building initiatives, we ensure our students have the tools they need to succeed both in and beyond the classroom.”
