Are you ready to educate the next generation of nurses? Transform your passion for nursing into a pivotal healthcare leadership role with University of Houston-Clear Lake’s (UHCL) Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Education and Leadership program, located at UHCL at Pearland. This graduate program, designed for individuals holding a BSN degree, is a dual-focus that meets national educational standards and provides the necessary skills for educating in academic and clinical environments, and advanced roles in healthcare and administration in various settings. The program is uniquely tailored to the needs of domestic and international students. Additionally, in-state and out-of-state nurses, including veterans and active military personnel, are considered. The MSN degree opens doors to roles such as academic and clinical educators, staff development coordinators, and nursing managers. Furthermore, it prepares individuals to excel as hospital management, administrative leaders, and other key positions across diverse healthcare settings.
This 30-hour accelerated degree program uniquely blends nursing education and healthcare leadership, combining courses from the College of Human Sciences and Humanities with those from the Healthcare Administration Program in the College of Business. This combination and the program’s accelerated nature make it distinctive. The curriculum provides evidence-based teaching that supports the knowledge needed by the program end to sit for the National League for Nursing certification exam; CNEn, CNE, CNEcl.
Dr. Karen Alexander, Director of Nursing, emphasized the abundant support available to students, including various scholarships and tuition reimbursement options provided by most hospitals.
“There are scholarships our university offers and some internal private donor scholarships,” said Alexander. “Most hospitals provide tuition reimbursement as well,” she continued. “This program supports the seamless transition from graduates of the RN-BSN program, so there is no need to seek other institutions. The BSN and MSN can both be completed at UHCL.”
Classes are designed with students’ busy schedules in mind. They are conveniently scheduled once a week, with courses available two days a week depending on a student’s full-time or part-time status. The courses run on a block schedule and are offered in the morning, afternoon, and early evening. Although there are scheduled days and times, the program also offers HyFlex modality. This model allows students to choose how they engage with the course content, whether they are across town or the country. UHCL believes in giving students the power to shape their learning experience.
“HyFlex combines the terms hybrid and flexible,” said Alexander. “Hybrid learning integrates complementary face-to-face (synchronous) and online learning (asynchronous) experiences to meet learning objectives. This allows students to attend the program from anywhere in the U.S.”
For working professionals, the program offers domestic students a 100% asynchronous online option. The HyFlex also offers a 100% synchronous face-to-face option for international students who must attend 90% face-to-face. According to Alexander, this perk is immense for international students, as UHCL offers face-to-face programs in the RN-BSN and MSN.
“All students undergo the same combination of online and in-person course activities, and students are given a choice in how they participate in the course and engage with the material in the mode that works best for them over the course and from session to session,” she said.
