Busby appointed to JSC Federal Credit Union board of directors

JSC Federal Credit Union has appointed Dwayne Busby, executive director of Strategic Partnerships at University of Houston-Clear Lake, to its board of directors.

"My appointment to this board continues UH-Clear Lake's connection and influence in our community," Busby said. "We will now have a direct connection with a financial institution that has supported UHCL for over 20 years."

Busby said that JSC FCU recently finalized their new strategic plan that aimed to become more of a digital resource to the community to which it provides financial resources. "That is why I am so excited about this," he said. "Credit unions are financial institutions that provide multiple resources to the community, but they have to be able to reach people virtually online and on devices in an intuitive way. The board is helping the credit union become more agile in that way."

He said his three-year term on the board begins in April, and he is currently serving as interim board member. Busby was recruited to the role by JSC FCU Board Chair Deborah Conder, who recently retired from the role of director of External Relations at NASA. Conder also received her Master of Business Administration from UHCL in 1994.

"I met Dwayne Busby a few years ago while at a UHCL and NASA partnering strategy meeting with (UHCL President) Ira Blake and key members of her team, which included Dwayne," Conder said. "I was instantly impressed with Dwayne and over the next couple of years, I would see Dwayne out and about at community events."

Conder added that when she became board chair of the JSC FCU, she said the credit union needed a more diverse and inclusive board to better represent its membership and to align with its bold, strategic vision for the future.

"The opportunity to recruit and select new board candidates presented itself recently, and we purposefully prioritized diversity, community engagement, and strategic partnering as three of the many competencies, skills and qualities we are seeking in board members," she said. "Dwayne immediately came to my mind and as a bonus, he's been a member of the JSC FCU since high school. We are very fortunate to have Dwayne as part of our JSC FCU leadership team as we move forward towards our strategic goals."
