Beth Lewis named UHCL at Pearland chief operations officer
Beth Lewis will join University of Houston-Clear Lake’s leadership team as the first-ever interim associate vice president and chief operations officer for UH-Clear Lake at Pearland. Lewis has worked in public higher education for over 33 years, with the last 30 years in community colleges and universities in Texas. She will assume her new role on Sept. 1.
“The most exciting part of being the first one in this role is that I love to start and build things, and it’s a big part of why I wanted this job,” Lewis said. “It’s a groundbreaking opportunity to shape what the Pearland location can and should be, based on the desires of people, businesses and influencers in the area, combined with the mission, vision and values of UHCL.”
Lewis will be responsible for the implementation of the strategic plan, administration and management of all academics, continuing education, strategic enrollment management and public service program development.
Lewis holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership and a master’s degree in English from Sam Houston State University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English from University of Texas at Austin.
A native Houstonian, Lewis is returning to her home city after four years in administration at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi. While there, she spent three years as executive vice president and chief academic officer, and one year as vice president for Academic Affairs. In addition, Lewis was the direct supervisor of five deans, chaired the Emergency Management Team, and co-chaired the Strategic Planning Committee. She was also the administrative lead on building a new campus, as well as the renovation of one of the college’s existing campuses.
“Dr. Lewis brings a passion for student success, community involvement and visibility through an open communication style that will advance the presence and impact of UHCL at Pearland throughout the community and region,” said UHCL President Ira K. Blake. “I’m confident that with her leadership, UHCL at Pearland will demonstrate increased collaboration and intentional inclusion with the university and surrounding communities that will serve as a beacon of distinction across the University of Houston System.”
