U.S. News & World Report Ranks UHCL Among Best Online Programs

The University of Houston-Clear Lake’s (UHCL) online master’s degree programs have achieved notable rankings in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best Online Programs UHCL’s online programs continue to make impressive strides, moving to No. 35 in “Best Online Master’s in Education Programs,” jumping 39 places from No. 74 last year. Additionally, UHCL climbed to No. 97 in “Best Online Master’s in Business Programs,” and to No. 32 for the “Best Online Master’s in Business Programs for Veterans.”

“These rankings reflect the unwavering dedication of our faculty and staff to maintaining and enhancing the quality of our online programs,” said UHCL President Richard Walker. “The recognition underscores our commitment to extending educational opportunities to all students.”

In its 12th year, the U.S. News Best Online Programs is designed for individuals looking to complete or further their education. This year's edition evaluates more than 1,600 online bachelor's and master's degree programs using metrics specific to online learning. The rankings only include degree-granting programs offered primarily online by regionally accredited institutions.

"Offering online programs is not just about making education accessible, it's about empowering UHCL students to take control of their own success,” said UHCL Provost Christopher Maynard. “By breaking down the barriers of time, location, and accessibility, our online programs provide a platform for students to learn at their own pace. Both in-person and online, our faculty continue to create a high-quality, engaged educational environment that is learner-focused, which is reflected in these rankings.”

This achievement places UHCL in a tie for fifth among Texas institutions for online education, sharing this notable position with Sam Houston State University.

“We are gratified to find out our online master’s programs have achieved their highest-ever rankings in the U.S. News and World Report’s 2024 Best Online Master’s in Education Programs publication,” said College of Education Dean Joan Pedro.

 She said it is a testament to the dedication and passion the College of Education’s faculty and staff have been putting into their work for the benefit of students, the university, and the community at large.

College of Business Dean Edward Waller added that the “Best Online Master’s in Business Programs” ranking demonstrates the collaborative efforts and commitment of the faculty, staff, and students to “mission-aligned continuous improvement and societal impact.”

In a previous U.S. News & World Report, UHCL ranked No. 12 among the “Top Public Schools” in Texas, and No. 162 on a national scale. Further accentuating its commitment to student success and upward mobility, UHCL has made a significant leap in the "Top Performer for Social Mobility” rankings, moving up 66 spots to No. 143 among national universities.
