UHCL, Dickinson ISD Launch Guaranteed Admission Partnership
New agreement creates direct pathway to UHCL for eligible Dickinson ISD students beginning with Fall 2027 applicants
The University of Houston-Clear Lake and Dickinson Independent School District today launched a new Guaranteed Admission partnership creating a clear, direct pathway to a four-year university for eligible Dickinson ISD students.
The agreement, UHCL's first Guaranteed Admission partnership with a school district, has the potential to benefit approximately 515 Dickinson ISD seniors. University and district leaders formally recognized the partnership during a signing ceremony on Thursday, August 27, at UHCL.
"Students should be able to see a clear path from where they are today to where they want to go next," UHCL President Richard Walker said. “Through this partnership with Dickinson ISD, we're helping remove uncertainty from that journey. Combined with our efforts to make a college education more affordable, we're showing students and families that a four-year degree at UHCL is within reach.”
Beginning with the Fall 2027 application cycle, participating Dickinson ISD students with a calculated unweighted GPA of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale can secure guaranteed admission to UHCL by completing the university's application and submitting an official transcript. SAT or ACT scores are optional for admission, and the university's $45 application fee will be waived for qualified students. Some academic programs may have additional admission requirements.
“This partnership with the University of Houston-Clear Lake is about more than automatic admission—it is about opening doors and helping our students see what is possible for their future,” Dickinson ISD Superintendent Dr. Rebecca Brown said. “When a student knows that a four-year university is within reach, right here in our own community, college becomes more than a dream; it becomes a real and attainable plan. We want every Gator to graduate knowing they have options, opportunities, and people who believe in their potential.”
The Guaranteed Admission partnership is part of UHCL's broader effort to expand both access and affordability for students throughout the region. Beginning in Fall 2027, qualifying Texas students from families with adjusted gross incomes of up to $100,000 may have tuition and mandatory fees covered through UHCL's expanded Hawk Promise program.
Together, Guaranteed Admission and Hawk Promise address two significant considerations for students and families: providing a clear pathway to admission and helping make earning a four-year degree more affordable. Students must independently meet the eligibility requirements for each program.
Through the partnership, Dickinson ISD students will also be connected with UHCL admissions counselors and information about academic programs, campus life, scholarships and financial aid as they prepare for college.
