UHCL and WUSOM launch dual degree program to train future leaders in healthcare

The University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) and Windsor University School of Medicine (WUSOM) are proud to announce the launch of a new dual degree program, formalized through a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) effective May 1, 2025. This collaboration allows eligible students to concurrently pursue a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from WUSOM and a Joint Healthcare Administration MHA/MBA from UHCL’s College of Business (COB).

The dual degree program responds to the growing demand for healthcare professionals with strong foundations in clinical practice and business leadership. By integrating medical and administrative training, graduates will be uniquely equipped to lead in complex and evolving healthcare environments.

“Healthcare today requires a dynamic skill set that spans clinical knowledge, strategic leadership, and operational excellence,” said Dr. Jordan Mitchell, chair of the Healthcare Administration Department at UHCL. “This partnership is an exciting step forward—and on a personal note, I’m excited to begin working on this initiative that reflects the future of interdisciplinary healthcare education.”

The agreement enables streamlined curricula that reduce redundancy, lower costs, and shorten the time required to earn both degrees. Students can complete the MD/MBA or MD/MHA in approximately five years, and the MD/MHA/MBA in six years. Coursework flexibility includes online delivery and summer offerings to accommodate the demanding schedules of medical students.

I want to make history through this initiative—and more importantly, I hope it helps create a meaningful impact on the world through generations globally,” Dr. Zuberi continued. “I also express deep gratitude to my parents for their unwavering support, noting their encouragement throughout my educational journey.”

The MOU also outlines coordinated advising, shared credit opportunities, and a joint academic oversight committee to maintain rigorous standards and ensure student success.
